History Of Pizza, which has become the world's most favorite and popular food today

Pizza, which has become the world’s most favourite and popular food today, was once a simple and cheap meal that poor labourers included in their daily routine. Its history is about two thousand years old, and it started in the poor areas of Greece, where people were looking for cheap and nutritious food. Do you know that pizza was originally only for the poor and has now become a hobby and fashion among the rich? The journey of pizza is very interesting, and its history is as fascinating as its taste. Today, more than five billion pizzas are sold every year around the world, and pizza has become an industry with an annual turnover of about Rs 9,300 billion. So, are you also interested in knowing how pizza made this journey?

Its story begins in the 18th century in the city of Naples, Italy. At that time, the city had a large number of poor labourers who came from surrounding small towns in search of employment. These labourers were always looking for cheap and nutritious food so that they wouldn’t have to spend on expensive meals to fill their stomachs for a long time. During this period, new food like pizza began to be made in Naples, prepared with cheap and easily available ingredients. Some inexpensive vegetables or meat were placed on the pizza dough, and it was sold in small pieces. This food was ideal for labourers as it helped them satisfy their hunger for a long time while also reducing their expenses.

Now, let’s talk about the most famous type of pizza: “Margherita Pizza.” This pizza was created by the famous pizza maker of that time, Rafael Cito. Another interesting fact is that in 1889, the King and Queen of Italy visited Naples. They were fond of French food but soon grew bored of it. So, Rafael prepared three different types of pizza for the king and queen. Of these, Queen Margherita liked one the most, which was made with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. After this, that pizza was named “Margherita,” and it remains the most beloved pizza in the world.

By the end of the 19th century, this Italian pizza reached America. In the 1960s, two American brothers, Tom and James, opened a pizza chain in Michigan, originally named “Dominick’s.” In 1965, its name was changed to “Domino’s,” and today it is the world’s largest pizza chain, with more than 16,000 stores worldwide. This journey of Domino’s is a great example of how pizza gradually became a global food item.

Nowadays, many brands have made their mark in the world of pizza. The pizza craze is also growing day by day in India. More than 50,000 pizzas are ordered every day in India. Domino’s alone operates more than 1,500 stores in India. The pizzas here have also become more diverse, with toppings such as mozzarella, chicken, paneer, and fish. Additionally, chocolate pizza has also become quite popular.

Furthermore, there is also a deep relationship between pizza and technology. Robots are now being used to make and serve pizza. For the first time in Rome, a robot machine was introduced that not only makes pizza but also serves the desired pizza upon order. This is not only an exciting experience for pizza lovers but also an important technological development for the pizza industry.

This journey of pizza is fascinating, and its story continues to evolve. So, which pizza topping do you like? Do you also enjoy new flavours and unique pizza options? Share your thoughts and be a part of this informative journey.
